Learning about lifecyles

May 7, 2024

The ducklings went for a visit to Katie B’s house over the weekend. Katie and her two little boys did a great job looking after them, they even had a proper swim in the bath. When Katie brought the 5 little ducklings back, we couldn’t believe how much they had grown. As you can probably imagine, we’ve sang the song ‘five little ducks went swimming one day’, many times this week. Which has been fantastic for counting, subtracting and number recognition. The children loved watching the ducklings swimming in our water tray outside, they dived under the water and it was amazing to see how fast they were to say they are still so young. On Thursday we said goodbye to Barbra, Peter, Liam, Fin and Rosie as they went back home to the farm.

We’ve continued to look at lifecycles this week, especially the lifecycle of a duck or chick egg. The children have a great understanding of how the cycle is continuous. In our cabin time this week, we looked at a egg hatching book together, then sorted out the lifecycles of the frog, butterfly and the duck.
